Not my cup of ND game

The storyline and the scenario did not turn me on that much. It is a good ND game to play, but I was quickly bored by the story... Guess its a matter of taste. Or maybe I got my hopes too high. But it is worth a try anyway, I do like the hole ND world, despite the story. :)

Gave me headache

It's a cool atmosphere but there's too much effect with the Benzo Pills and it boring sometimes. You don't know what to do and sometimes if you don't click on the perfect zone, the caracter isn't able to open a door. In fact, if you love those kind of game go ahead but I pass my turn. It gave me headache looking at the screen with everything moving around like if I took LSD.. After ten minutes, it's not cool.

Addicting micro management open world RPG

This game does remind of Baldur's Gate and the likes, it has a non linear open world flow to it that gives you the freedom to go in different directions and try different opponents until you progress. An in game journal keeps track of your story, quests, recipes and so on, and personally I appreciate not having to make any notes on paper. You can also set markers on your map for future reference.

The isometric view can be rotated some, but also unlocked for full rotation when needed, and you can toggle between that and an overview camera to not miss anything. Graphics are excellent and you'll find yourself wanting to stay zoomed in more easily as it reveals some really nice details.

The gameplay is real time, dialogues switch it into sentence selecting and the battles are turn based tactical games of chess the way you move around, pick your spells and actions, and in what order you do things. The battles are incredibly well done, the entire world feels well balanced, and you'll often find yourself outnumbered having to come back to try new approaches to win. Also, your opponents never yield, you'll always have to kill the last bit of life in the last one standing every time, which could be argued.

The only real drawback of this game is the inventory system. It's open grid based and you drag and drop item by item. This is also due to the drop-on-top crafting system I guess, since you drag items back and forth to combine them into new things. As the game goes on you do get more backpacks for keeping it organized though.

This game is all about micro management. You pick what values to improve on your characters, you move around each item individually, you even repair items one by one. Your characters are made from many values that you can affect, and you don't level that much so take your time picking the attributes you want. Your main characters also have dialogues as their choices determine their morals and also their traits, which is a nice touch how your RP actually affects your game. In addition, you start out with your characters having a certain class and look, but you can customize it both regarding looks and all the numbers before setting out. The character creation and development hold its own against any MMORPG. As an example, one of my main characters started out as a witchcraft assassin but has over time evolved into a pyromancer healer tank.

Everything has been thought of and taken into account, the gameplay and stories keep surprising you with new turns, new places, new people in a way that makes you go look around just-one-more-corner. The music is excellent, nice and varied. I heard that the composer unfortunately passed away recently. The main plot and the many side stories are great and the voice acting is good, even though with a bit too much echo at times, and you'll find a nice touch of dry humour regularly in this game.

Divinity Original Sin is a quite large game and world, taking place on several maps. This review is written after 70+ hours of gameplay and I have yet to finish the game on Normal difficulty. Playing under Mavericks, the game has not frozen or had a gameplay affecting bug once.

Viking Saga

Great game but...

..I absolutely had to knock off 2 stars for the annoying voiceovers with every action carried out. Bearing in mind this is a TM game which means a large amount of gathering and repeating actions you can imagine how teeth-grindingly tedious "..I'm already on the way.." gets when it's repeated over and over (and with overlap) as you send each of your 'vikings' to perform a task. If perhaps there had been an option to turn off this particular voice over but leave the sounds of actions still (like there is to turn-off the always oh so dreadful music game developers feel compelled to add to their games) then I would have perhaps been more inclined to give it a 4 or even 5 star rating... It is a solid little game with good replayability factor due to the difficulty in completing tasks on time and earning your 3 gold stars. A couple of the levels are bugged but can still be completed if you quit them as they seem to get stuck in a loop - bonus level sheep is one of these.

HARD but fair and brutal fun

This game will beat you until frustration will set in on some higher difficuty levels, but there is an undeniable (if disturbing) excitement to be found in slaughtering enemies in the worst way. The 80s theme is almost unique. It reminded me of Grand Theft Auto Vice City with lots of primary colors and a hip edge, the thrumming electronic music being a particular highlight.
Only issues I had is the graphics are a little iffy (enemies and blood fall through walls a lot) and it is unforgiving with how fast you can die. There's also actually very little strategy so much as twitch reflexes employed to win with any kind of score.
But it's a great way to work out some agression or have those moments of 'so hard it's hillarious' gameplay that a lot of mainstream games can't manage.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
 –

Not The Best but Not Terrible

I heard scathing reviews of this game, but now that I finally have it I'm not nearly as unhappy as the criticism would have it. I really like the original time period and setting which translates into a compelling approach to aliens from the perspective of the cold-war era American heartland. The controls and interface are a lot like Mass Effect but that's not a slight against the game either as they're smooth and responsive. The aliens have interesting appearences and there's a sense of the real origins of X-Com is a way no other game has managed, not even Enemy Unknown I'd argue.
The lowered score is because of hardware issues. The game is fun but it stutters and crashes despite the MacStore saying that the game is playable on the lowest settings. I don't doubt the Macstore so apparently there's some issues, or at least I had some.

A Hack and Slash RPG Dream

This game is the whole package of Torchlight's pet system and Diablo style loot with tons of skill trees and enemies types. Nice animation and I love the style. HUGE world. It gets a little repetative at higher levels but the benefit of lots of starting classes and pets and abilities is that as soon as you get overpowered you can just begin over again and have a new adventure. Atmospheric music and sound effects. I liked the original and the sequel is the original improved in every way.

A hardcore strategy. Check the reviews before purchase.

It is a great hardcore strategy game. Dont expect too much if you like fancy graphics and videos/cut scenes... it is kind a board game... But the AI is nice and you have a decent freedom about what to do... like it very much...

Odd Game

I enjoy this game but it is sometimes difficult to know exactly what to do next. It is definitely odd and unique. Lots of dialogue. The voice actor for the main character freaks me out a little bit. It is what it says it is but not much more than that.

Fun but repetitive

This is a fun game to play when you are bored but you cannot play it for a good few hours straight as it becomes too repetitive. I do enjoy it and its snarkiness, though.
Side Note: Gay marriage is completely legal in this game. Yay, progress!

Nancy Drew: Sea of Darkness

One of the best ND in recent times

I was honestly a little skeptical after Silent Spy, but this ND game goes back to everything that makes the series great: characters you can't trust, Ned moments, great puzzles, and doing "jobs" to make money in order to advance.
Some bonuses are that you can learn a little of the local language.
Note: You cannot accrue more than 1000 coins at a time. Spend some before trying to make more or you will waste your time.
