SteamWorld Dig
 –

Wonderful game

If you are looking for a simple, yet somewhat challeging game, oosing with charm, then this is the one you go for.

You play a robot who arrives in a small town in a desert, looking for his uncle. You start digging below the city, and find all kinds of wonders! Armed with only a pickaxe, you have to work your way through minor puzzles, easy enemies, and dig to find gems and other treasures. Along the way you'll get various upgrades and other stuff.

Graphics are really well done, cute, bot not too cutesy, and really fits the world. It is oosing with charm! Gameplay is great, with an emphasis on platforming and minor puzzle solving. Game is quick to load, and easy to learn. Story is not the important part here, but it does the trick.

Highly recommended!

Shelter
 –

Beautiful, relaxing, but not much of a game

You play a badger mom, who has to take care of her 5 young, while moving them to a new shelter.
The game looks beautiful, and has a very relaxing setting, but you don't actually do much. You just keep moving from place to place, while picking up the occasional vegetable for the young, yipping at a fox, or duck from an eagle.

If you need to turn off your brain while doing something relaxing, this is your game. If you expect anything with more action than Tetris, this is not the one.

Cities: Skylines - Snowfall
 –

Snowfall adds fun gameplay mode, but does not improve your existing cities

The snow mechanics adds a cool dimension to the game, but it seems a missed opportunity that the snow is not dynamic and instead you have to play on a perma-snow map.

Hearts of Iron IV
 –

Really in depth but learning curve is steep

I really enjoyed HOI4; however, the learning curve is very steep and you should expect 8-10 hours just learning the mechanics. Once you overcome this hump, then you are presented with endless gameplay where you can live out any WW2 fantasy you want.

Europa Universalis IV: Dharma
 –

Mixed bag, still quite fun

(Note that I've sunk 1000+ hours into EU4 so far, and have nearly all DLCs anyway, buying this one was a no-brainer)

If you've played the game for as long as I have, an update like this is very much welcome to keep things fresh and try to do another run, with a fresh new nation. In my case, I started as the Timurids, forming the Mughal Empire (which seem to have been massively buffed), and having a lot of fun with it (the Mughals' national ideas & culture assimilation bonuses are amazing).

The most welcome change is probably removing the minimum land requirements from estates, which made previous world conquests that much more tedious (though I believe this is included in the free patch that went with the release as well).

The new custom government reforms are also quite interesting, but it keeps getting harder to advance down this path the more you go through with your world conquest (as reform progress is tied to average autonomy). Going over the maximum number of states now gives you yearly corruption, which sounds kind of terrible, but realistically it's only an extra money sink to root out corruption. Makes the game mildly more challenging in certain scenarios. Not a fan of the rework to religious conversion (now only working in states), but I typically play with humanist ideas anyway, and I think they've rolled it back a notch in the newer 1.27 free patch.

Definitely read the full patch notes/development diaries if you're interested in the full details on what changes before you buy. This is probably the best time to buy the DLC too, as they supposedly fixed a bunch of the bugs introduced from 1.26 in 1.27. Maybe wait for a sale though, 10 dollars (or euros) feels like the sweet spot for the amount of content provided.

Hearts of Iron IV

Feels unfinished

As with many Paradox games, the base game needs a few expansions before really shining.

Crusader Kings II: Conclave
 –

Higher difficulty

This DLC is great because it adds an additional layer to your Council. You no longer have to select your council depending only on their intrigue, learning, stewardship... But rather their personality, opinion of you, and how much of a threat they are inside your lands. Also, some ruler decision have to be aproved by the Council, which makes it much more interesting and increases the difficulty level.

Crusader Kings II: Charlemagne
 –

I expected more

The DLC is okay because you can start at an earlier date and also adds the option to create custom kingdoms. However, I don't think it adds that much concerning options or gameplay.

Crusader Kings II DLC Collection

Complete

Its a really complete bundle. Be aware though that it does not include all the DLC or expansions, however, it is really worth it if you can buy it while at sale.

Surviving Mars: First Colony Edition
 –

Good game, authentic mixed with fun

The game can be split into 2 parts - preparing you colony and bringing your humans. With a semi-random order of techs, varied terrain and resource distributions and different 'mysteries' each playthrough can present a somewhat different experience.

Although not 'realistic', the simulation is fun and makes for good gameplay, and the devs have already shown they are listening to feedback and have updated the game accordingly with requested features.
