  1. A constant, rewarding battle against the elements as well as the enemy

This great viking strategy game requires you to work with limited space, food, people and resources, in a hostile environment, to survive and thrive but with disaster a constant threat.

The limited availability of everything you need means that you have to carefully balance and plan your actions, but in a timely way. Particularly cold winters, rat infestations, and other minor events will throw a further spanner in the works although your can quickly fall into chaos even in normal circumstances. When you start to run out of food, wood or your people become unhappy - some of the core requirements your people have to effectively survive, things can quickly go from bad to worse.

This makes poor planning or risk taking on your part punishing but fair, and recovering from it is also extremely rewarding. It is this battle against the elements, not the opponent, that really makes this game shine.

With so many routes to 'victory' that don't involve just beating up the other clans (which is probably the slowest and least effective way to win), the game encourages a good balanced strategy and is suited to all kinds of player.

A great, interesting campaign which puts a unique twist on the core gameplay is another wonderful addition, which adds variety and interest as well as teaching the core game and has a lot of replayability with challenging but achievable optional objectives for every mission.

Overall a wonderful strategy game, great for solo play or with others if you prefer, and highly recommended.
