Columbus might not have been the first, but he was the most important. His voyages to the New World were quickly exploited by an ascendant Spanish Crown, leading that great Catholic kingdom to over a century of dominance at the center of European politics. The gold of the Aztecs and silver of Peru laid the foundations of a global empire that stretched from Mexico to Madrid to Manila. Relive those days of empire building from the Reconquista to the treasure fleets in Europa Universalis IV: Golden Century, a new immersion pack from Paradox Development Studios.

Features of Golden Century include:

  • Minority Expulsion: Settle your distant colonies with homeland minorities, promoting greater cohesion at home, while adding more diversity to your subject nations.
  • Establish Orders: Iberian nations can appoint Jesuit, Franciscan or Dominican clerics to govern their states to reduce unrest or ease conversion..
  • New Mission Trees: New missions and objectives for the nations of Iberia and Northwest Africa, including Spain and Andalucia.
  • Pirate Republics: Play as or combat against pirate nations in dangerous sea zones, with their own flavor and game style.
  • Flagships: Appoint a Flagship to lead your navy, adding combat and trade power to your fleets.
  • Naval Barrage: Use your ships to help besiege coastal forts by bombarding the walls.

Golden Century includes:

  • New Iberian Army Units: 20 unique infantry units for Granada/Andalucia, Navarra, Leon/Galicia, Salé and Pirates.
  • New Iberian Ship Models: 17 new ship models for the Iberian nations (Portugal, Spain, Aragon, Navarra, Galicia, Leon, Andalucia and Granada.)
  • New Berber Ship Models: 17 new ship models for Berber nations (Morocco, Tlemcen, Algiers, Tunis, Fezzan, Mzab, Toggourt, Djerid, Tripoli, Tafilalt, Sus, Fez, Salé.)
  • New Music: 10 to 12 minutes of original music inspired by the discovery of the New World.

  1. Another DLC
    by Kedzierz, Poland - Dec 23rd 2018

Its one of many great DLC for EU IV.

  2. Pirate republics!
    by Kaiser-e-rum, USA - Dec 20th 2018

Worth it for this feature if on sale, and even if its not, go ahead and get it.
    You wont regret it.

  3. This is not the Iberian Immersion Pack you were looking for
by Andres Sanchez, Spain - Dec 16th 2018

If you expect Golden Century to revamp the Iberian countries as Rule Britannia or Third Rome did with the British or Russian countries, you'll be disappointed. There's new content for those countries (new trees of missions, a few new features like "religious orders", and several events) but you won't have the feeling you're running a "special" country as you have with the ones visited in former expansions like the mentioned or Rights of Man (Prussia), Cradle of Civilization (Middle-Easter muslim countries), Mandate of Heaven (East Asia) or Dharma (Indian subcontinent).

That said, there's a few other features in the game (pirate republics, flagships...), but more "flavourish" than effective.

Golden Century is not "bad", but mediocre. Looking forward to a change of course in EU4.

  4. Milking the game with this one
    by Migol, Poland - Dec 15th 2018

Looks like Paradox ran out of ideas what to do with EU4. This time they bring small additions, a bit of missions (I htink Rule Brittania brought that milk source) a bit perks and that's about it. Buy at -50% at least, not worth it if it's more expensive. +1 Star for being a "small" DLC for 10$, not a big 20$ one.

  5. Iberia gets a ton of new stuff
    by Dubbs09, USA - Dec 13th 2018

If you are starting out and using Catille as a 'learning' nation like recommended and are wanting to spice it up or played the area before and want to spice it up, look no more. New missions, features and content for the region. I love Castille and forming Spain

  6. Good If you want to expand your play through for certain nations
    by Xirtam, USA - Dec 11th 2018

Golden Century DLC adds new options and features for most of the Iberian and North African Nations in the game as well as pirate nations. The Mission Trees, Governments, and Events add a nice flare and dept to the nations that are highlighted in the DLC. If you are not interested in the nations outlined then most of the other general features are nice but added in the free update to the base game. Like other "Immersion Packs" this DLC was very targeted, so if the features outlined are not something interested in, you can skip.

  7. Immersion Pack - Spain
    by Rimaka, USA - Dec 11th 2018

After accidentally purchasing a DLC I already had, WinGameStore allowed me to refund my purchase within literally minutes after sending in a ticket, so I'm really thankful for that. With that money, I used it to buy this DLC (or rather, a simple immersion pack) instead.

I personally believe Mission Trees should be free content, so that is where I disagree with these immersion packs. With that being said, Paradox allows you to pick and choose which immersion packs you want, without feeling as if you're missing out on content.

Even if you don't plan on playing any of the nations on and near the Iberian Peninsula, the Pirate Republic & Colonization mechanics may make it worth it-if you can get this immersion pack while it's on sale.
