  1. Grand strategy in the roman era, falls short on expectations

First of all, the deluxe edition does not include any major DLC, be aware. It includes a flavor pack, and some items outside the game (wallpapers, forum avatar, etc).

This game was released to mixed reviews. It gets ideas and mechanics from several Paradox games, but in the end it failed to deliver a product as solid as other titles from the company. There were multiple major patches to improve on the mechanics, but some design decisions are hard to change now. It's still a grand strategy game, if you like the genre and the roman era, it can provide many hours of fun. Make friends, bring war to your enemies, expand your empire.

  2. It's A Typical Paradox Release

It's getting better. The game was terrible upon release but Paradox is moving to rectify all of the games glaring shortcomings.

  3. A great sandbox

A bit harsh when it was launched, but it is getting better.
