Everything this adds to the base game is absolutely excellent and makes for a much richer experience in so many ways. Each addition, be it the extended federations and diplomacy options, or the starting origins to races, or the numerous added events make this well worthwhile.
And as always the added music is absolutely fantastic and a pleasure to listen to during extensive game sessions.
Other reviews have correctly stated that the biggest changes to the game were included in the free update that dropped alongside this expansion. However, I feel that all the added elements in Megacorp are a lot of fun and well worth the price of admission. And as always, I absolutely love the additional music tracks.
While the strategic play of CK2 is often discussed in reviews, I have always felt that the game is at its best when it increases the role playing opportunities for you. With an expanded religion system, a ton of new personal events (especially in battle), and added randomized worlds, the possibilities for hundreds more hours of fun are almost endless.
The tactical mech combat is fantastic, and it's something that is handled well and controls easily with a very gentle learning curve. The story is good, although the randomly generated missions can be a bit thin and repetitive. Configuring and customizing your mechs is great, and can be as micromanagement-intensive as you want if you're into that sort of thing. All in all the game is worth playing and has benefited quite positively from post-release patching.
Everyone is saying it but I'll add to the chorus - absolutely worth it if you buy on sale. If you enjoy focusing on the countries especially covered by this DLC then you'll enjoy it even more. Any HOI4 player owes it to themselves to pick this up.
I absolutely love Stellaris, which is obvious to anyone reading any of my product reviews. One of the elements that gives me joy is the almost RPG-like quality my stellar campaigns can take on as I experience the multitude of exploration events filling the game. This pack adds more of that, which to me is absolutely delicious topping on an already marvelous sundae. I am also very happy that they added in the ability to finally have peaceful options when dealing with crystalline entities and other galactic "wandering critters" because sometimes it just doesn't feel right to wipe them out.
Oh, and the additional music is fantastic as always!
Back in the day I was absolutely in love with a trio of classic strategy games: Master of Orion, Civilization and Master of Magic. Master of Magic had for a long time slipped into faded memory as it was eclipsed by the Heroes of Might & Magic series, but that never did quite scratch the same itch for me. Endless Legend gives me the same buzz of exploration, empire building, magic wielding heroes, and fantastical units, that I used to feel in the Master of Magic days. This is absolutely worth picking up, along with its expansions.
Please check my review of the classic edition for my more in depth thoughts on why this game is a winner. I bought the classic edition as a gift for a friend and have this edition for myself. The extra content is worth it because, hey, I love more content!!!
If you're considering buying this DLC then you already know that Crusader Kings is an amazing game. This expansion adds even more fun and flavor. Want an example? My ruler's fifth-born son murdered all his siblings and ascended to rule as the leader of both the kingdom and a secret Satan-worshiping cult. He was the head of that particular cult because it turned out he was literally the spawn of Satan, so you know that could only lead to an entertaining number of years of blood sacrifices and unruly peasants!
There is a lot of controversy in the EU4 community about expansion content versus pricing. Putting that aside, I feel that if you look at this expansion and judge it just by what it adds to the game that you will find it absolutely essential if you interested in exploring Asian gameplay. I agree that full price is a little steep, and that loses a star from me, but if you get this on sale then you'll get your money's worth and enjoy some really interesting expanded adventures in the mysterious Far East.
While I agree with others that this pack is not technically mandatory, I would say that if you are a fan of playing as one of the nations of what would become the United Kingdom that this pack actually would probably feel mandatory to you! The new mission system is fun, the British content is deep and satisfying, and the addition of the Anglican church makes for even more immersion. Absolutely worth it, and even more worth it if you can pick it up on sale!
With the caveat that you should absolutely not pay full price for this, let me say that the added story and travel events work to make a good game even better. Grab it on sale!
Musical taste is subjective, but if you're looking at buying this station then it's safe to say that you're probably into this type of music. Personally, I think it's great and it really helps me chill out while I build my city. Check out samples of the music on Youtube and if you like it, buy this!
If you're a fan of Endless Legend then chances are you'll be of the opinion that more can only be a good thing. In the case of this expansion, you'd be absolutely correct. Anyone who owns the base game owes it to themselves to have this DLC.
I've already gushed about how I love this game and feel that adding more can only be a good thing. Well, I personally have enjoyed this expansion even more than the Guardian expansion, which I loved, so there you go. Own Endless Legend? Get this right now.
The added flavor for the Commonwealth nations is essential for any HOI4 fan, however I would suggest picking this DLC up at a discount if possible as it feels marginally overpriced at $15. Definitely still worth getting, though, so don't ignore it!
Be proud of this technological terror you've constructed!
Stellaris is a fantastic game to begin with, and this just adds even more features for you to enjoy. People have been asking for planet-killer weapons since the game launched, and now that they're here get ready for a whole new dimension of challenge to open up to you. It's another must-own DLC for any Stellaris fan.
Do you want to play as a robot empire whose only desire is to collect all sentient species and care for them in elaborate little utopian colonies? Those silly humanoids don't need freedom, they just need to be saved from their own worst impulses. Or maybe you want to assimilate other species into your cyborg collective? Or maybe all non-mechanical life forms are inferior and need to be purged? Whatever floats your boat, this DLC will expand Stellaris with plenty of additional content, options and challenges. If you enjoy Stellaris, this just makes it even better.
Nothing in this DLC qualifies as essential, as it basically is adding more flavor and cosmetic variety to Stellaris. However, I personally love anything that adds to my Stellaris experience, and this DLC pack certainly does exactly that. It's worth it for the additional music alone, as far as I'm concerned.
Paradox games have a way of seeming overwhelming to newcomers at first glance, however they are always incredibly deep and rewarding experiences once you get a handle on them. HOI4 has so far been for me one of they quickest Paradox games for me to get my head around, probably second only to Stellaris. It will take time to master, but it will not be long before you are commanding your forces in sweeping invasions or desperate defenses across the battlefields of WW2. The ability to rewrite history is in your hands, and it's immensely satisfying to try something crazy and pull it off. Just ask my Canadian super-army that crushed the Nazis and then took over a huge chunk of Europe for the glory of Canada, eh!
