The Book of Unwritten Tales 2

Book of Unwritten Tales 2 review

The 2nd Unwritten Tales game is one I've enjoyed a lot more than the first. Generally one can be able to progress by merely interacting with all objects and characters then solving whatever puzzles remain that hadn't been interacted with, if they're stuck.
The humor and visuals are really nice and it is an overall a solid PnC game that fans of the genre could enjoy.

MudRunner - American Wilds Expansion
 –

Mudrunner AW DLC

This DLC adds some American vehicles and new areas, with the new areas being well designed, as they aren't copy paste of areas from the first game. Worthwhile DLC all in all if you want to get more out of the game.

XCOM®: Chimera Squad
 –

XCOM Chimera Squad review

Chimera Squad attempts to offer an alternate gameplay take of the XCOM series which is immediatly visible with its use of a turn based mechanic where deciding on what actions your units do will have them act either before or after an enemy's action.

This can be disappointing to fans of the recent two games as there you can still plan and make up in case a unit fails an attack on an enemy, but in here, once one of your unit's actions fails, you will need to deal with the enemies' immediate next action to finish before your next unit acts, and so on until a battle phase is cleared to set up another strategy.

It's a decent game overall with some nice music at least, but the gameplay changes can be off putting to traditional fans of the recent XCOM games, but for first time players they may enjoy it.

Pillars of Eternity - Definitive Edition
 –

Pillars of Eternity DE review

A throwback to PC RPGs of the 90s and early 2000s, it has various modern gameplay elements that can help a player ease into the style of gameplay that older cRPGs employed as a way to get into the ore popular classics as well. This ver. was sold at a nice discount offering the 2 expansions which offer some lengthy extra content too.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
 –

Wolf 2 review

The game is pretty divisive among fans of the modern Wolfenstein series, but if you need more shooting up of nazis in your FPS, it may be worth checking out. That's mainly the reason I enjoyed it, though the shotgun could've sounded better.

Vendetta - Curse of Raven's Cry Deluxe Edition
 –

Vendetta CoRC review

I remember a friend being excited for the game and got the original ver., but its reviews were not very good and when this updated ver. first went up for sale, I was unable to claim a key for the free upgrade.
Still the price offered was good, and while there are better pirate themed games out there, this game has some good ship and crew management systems with good voice acting. However the gameplay side of the game isn't all that impressive, so if you're interested in the game, keep low expectations and go in for a 'style over substance' approach to playing the game.

Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 - The Crystal Menhir
 –

Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 review

While the previous 2 XXL games were in 3D on main consoles of the time, this game takes an overhead, isometric view. The reason for this is to allow for 2 player co op which is sound in theory but at the same time doesn't really warrant being labeled under the XXL brand, and the only likely reason for that is that it is the more popular branding for the games of the series.

Despite this however, the game is decent to say the least. I did feel like it left way too much to be desired once I finished it but I think fans of the series will be able to enjoy it more than those that aren't.
The isometric view isn't really that bad a game design IMHO, but the game itself feels pretty shallow; the combat gets repetitive way too quickly, and while smacking about Romans is always a treat in Asterix media, one could only go about Roman camps for 10 minutes beating up Romans for so long that they would rather listen to one of Cacofonix's ballads instead.
The game gets better by the last 1/3 of the game as one of the lands you visit involve puzzle elements in order to clear a dungeon.

I feel that had the game balanced it out with 1 battle arena against romans and a puzzley exploration dungeon per land you visit (there are 4-5 in the game), the game would've been better.

As is the game is OK, if you want more Asterix and Obelix in your life, or at least something to play with the young'uns, this game may entertain you and the young at heart might take more kindly to the game's design.

GreedFall
 –

Greedfall review

Greedfall is the best output from Spiders to date. Featuring various RPG elements such as freedom to learn whatever combat skills you need as well as having side stats that can help in clearing missions differently or affecting dialog options, this is a must play for fans of Dragon Age's style of RPG.

The Great Perhaps
 –

Great Perhaps review

A short and light puzzle adventure game that utilizes time travel mechanics. If you're looking for a light gaming experience, this one may be worth looking into.

Ayni Fairyland
 –

Ayni Fairyland review

Seems I've been getting a bunch of light games lately. This is a decent indie platformer with various unlockable skins' to swap your character's look with. While it could use some improvement far as handling the character's movement, IMO, it was still able to offer an entertaining experience.

MechaNika
 –

MechaNika review

A Point n' Click adventure game from the creator of Agatha Knife, where you help Nika build her robot, MechaNika to begin her global school usurption plans. The game has some cute art and nice humor (some bordering on the darker side of things), and I didn't find the puzzles that difficult as I mainly took my time playing it and indulging in the setting and the humor.

Songbird Symphony
 –

Songbird symphony

A rhythm adventure game with cute birbs and animations. While some gameplay mechanics couldve been better (randomization of certain rhythm sections) it is still a nice and charming game.

Horace review

A platformer adventure game with lovely (british) humor. If you don't mind the pixel art aesthetic, you will find a charming game underneath.

Redeemer review

An action game played from an overhead/isometric perspective. Controls are fine and the latest update adds some neat additions such as coop and character upgrades.

Disney Cars Classics
 –

Disney cars collection review

Key redeemed fine and i got the games in the pack. They are simple and light games from what i played and will be good for younger children to enjoy.
With a little tinkering using nvidia inspector and dgvoodoo, the visual presentation can be improved though.

Disney Sky is Falling Pack
 –

Chicken little collection review

Decent and simple action adventure games. Will likely not appeal to more season players but younger children could still enjoy it.
Nvidia inspector and dgvoodoo can help in making the visuals look cleaner.

Disney Pixar Brave: The Video Game
 –

Brave review

Decent enough game, and I was surprised that my NVidia card was able to recognize and scale it properly on my screen.
If worse comes to worse, try using dgVoodoo for a nicer cleaner image.
While generally licensed games can be hit or miss, at the very least they can be enjoyable.

Contra Anniversary Collection
 –

Contra Collection review

Featuring 7 games from the 80s and early 90s, this collection now features the JP versions of the games which offer some light advantages to the player (such as 3 hit life bar in Contra Hard Corps) as well as some interesting animations in the JP 8-bit Contra classic.
A must play for fans of the series or genre.

Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection
 –

Konami Arcade Classics review

Featuring 8 of Konami's arcade games from the 80s, the main highlight are the Gradius games, Salamander and Thunder Cross.
The emulation is quite good and the inclusion of the JP versions allows players to experience a definitive way to play these classics. Whether it is to see Konami's earliest forays into the Shmup genre, trying out one of the black sheep entries of the Castlevania series, or to experience quality classic Shmup goodness, this is now a well done compilation of gaming goodness.

Puyo Puyo Champions
 –

Puyo Puyo Fever review

Utilizing more standard 'tourney'-level ruleset, the game can help new players better understand the tactics and strategies used in playing the game. Although it is multiplayer-centric it has offline versus modes for casual play as well.
