Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition
 –

Neither shooter yet nor RPG anymore

Fallout 4 falls a bit flat in all departments; its not a great base builder for the parts where you can do that, though mods expand this greatly.
Its not a great shooter, though it clearly has put far more emphasis on the non-VATS fighting this time around.
And, I think this comes as no surprise past FO3 for those who loved the CRPG originals, its not really an "oldschool" RPG much anymore, either. It can still be an enjoyable "Discover the world" romp, but it turned me off far quicker than prior entries while at the same time having me hoping the opposite would be the case beforehand.
Shame. I guess it needs to decide where to commit even more fully, rather than being in such a weird middle ground spot to really get its groove back for real.

DOOM

Well done.

Having played the original on a 486 and every other instance since, I can say without a doubt that this "reboot" might not have 1:1 the same original flaire and feel as the once great minigun clatter or still unbeaten shotgun "booms like a kick in the gut" sound, but it certainly serves up a great nice heaping of demonfodder to chew through with a lot of nice weapons in okayish levels. Some maps could be more straightforward, but overall I really cannot complain. Also, and this stands out hard, you can really scale this engine as far as you like, even into 4k, and it still runs like a dream. Much respect.
