Victoria 3 Grand Edition
 –

After a dozen hours of play

If you're a fan of paradox games it will be familiar to you. They need an exterminator for all the day 1 bugs and exploits. And good luck getting to 1936 between the late game crashes and slow downs.

It's got some good ideas, they're just executed poorly. The front line system sounds good, but stay away from India or Germany where it just breaks. The naval invasion system is badly explained, and somehow even worse than the HOI4 system. You need more ships than troops, and even then you might blink and miss your chance to see it failed because of the 100 troops garrisoning the enemies port.

The interest groups and radical system sounds nice. Until you realize you can just game loyalists by agreeing to everything that comes your way. Doesn't matter if you back out, but be careful because if you game it too hard you'll get an integer overflow and they'll despise you.

All the countries look nice, some even have enough flavor to last 20 years or so. After that though... There's a real late game problem of which flavor of vanilla do you want your country. Cause they're all pretty much the same after the first 50 years or so. Only thing that changes is how much you have to work to get to number one gdp.

So it's an okay game for now. Here's hoping paradox fixes it to actually be good.
