Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
 –

Great conclusion to Kiryu*****

It is wonderful that Sega got all of the Yakuza games on PC, and whilst this port is not amazing, it gets the job done. The requirements are not super high, the gameplay is still good, and it is a decent conclusion to Kiryu's story overall. Can recommend!

LEGO® The Incredibles
 –

Its alright, but TT have done better*****

I gotta say, whilst in some earlier LEGO games marathoning the entire thing (e.g. Star Wars the Complete Saga) gets a tad repetitive, I was left with the impression that Lego The Incredibles stretches things a bit. Who are half of the characters, and why have an entire game dedicated to a movie series of two films... Anyway - its a typical LEGO game, though some of the more "cinematic" moments are still cool. Get it on sale if you can and don't expect too much

Curse of the Dead Gods
 –

Good Roguelite*****

I played the game whilst it was on Early Access, and I liked what I saw - the combat is difficult, but the slow-and-steady progression one gets makes so that you feel like you're slowly improving. Gotta head back to see how it is after the full release, but I can generally recommend it for under 20 bucks.

Knights of Pen and Paper 2: Deluxiest Edition
 –

Great sequel*****

This game builds upon the foundations of the original, changing just enough to be fresh yet without losing what made it special. Great buy for those that enjoyed the first game, just don't expect anything drastically different.

Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition
 –

Good transition from mobile*****

Knights of Pen and Paper is an interesting proposition, balancing the video-game dungeon-crawling experience with that of (basic) tabletop principles, and simultaneously having to transform what was originally a mobile game to a full-fledged PC release.

For the most part it succeeds, with its older-school RPG mechanics that are not too grindy nor are they too simple due to the mobile game origins of the title. The humour lands most of the time, and the gameplay is fun having retained some of the table-top flexibility such as choosing the number of your foes etc.

The package in question comes with all the DLC gubbins and is often affordable enough that, most people will get their money's worth :)

Darksiders Genesis
 –

Great if unconventional side-game*****

The game is an interesting, if unconventional adjustment to the series: serves as a quasi-prequel, but changes the perspective from 3rd person to a hack&slash/twin-stick shooter 'isometric' perspective. Plays OK, and will be of interest to those invested in the series - but it does leave something to be desired as for having a proper sequel concluding the Darksiders story as well as flesh out Strife with his own adventure.

Katamari Damacy REROLL
 –

PS2 classic*****

Great remaster of a PS2 classic - runs great on mid-to-low tier modern PC's and has some nice improvements i.e. full HD resolution, some extra visual effects here and there and achievements if you're into that sort of thing. Game is not terribly long, but for the price is absolutely worth it.

XCOM: Chimera Squad
 –

Different does not mean bad*****

Chimera Squad changes the XCOM approach quite a bit, compared to some of is immediate predecessors: the squad is now set rather than randomly put together, but on the flip side they have specific personalities; the missions are shorter, but they are much more punchier - nothing wrong with crawling through a field whilst setting your troops on overwatch, but it can get a tad cumbersome in older games; the story is nothing super unique, but then neither were the previous instalments. If anything, this game should be praised for trying to bring specific characters and narratives to a series where the player's own narrative and attachment to their own-created characters is usually the norm. Think of this as the difference between a rogue-like and a more focused narrative driven experience - they provide different results and neither is inherently "better" - it just depends on how you prefer to play.

At the time of release there were a few bugs here and there, so pay attention to discourse as to whether those issues were resolved, though I did not encounter anything that halted progress or caused significant issues during my gameplay.

If the publishers continue to sell this game for about 10 bucks - definitely worth the try. :)

XCOM 2 Collection
 –

Great sequel!*****

XCOM 2 is an amazing sequel to the 2012 reboot, and it is quite the improvement. The story is now actually involved, the campaign is a bit longer, and the idea of having to constantly move your base around is an interesting twist on the original concept. Still annoying are some voice bugs, camera issues, and the 'statistical probability' of missing a point-blank shotgun shot (i.e. 99% chance to hit) - which brings in more randomness in a game where mistakes have long lasting effects; that last one could have been more carefully implemented.

This collection includes both the original game, the excellent expansion and all of the DLC - so it provides a staggering amount of content for a reasonable price.

Watch_Dogs™ - Season Pass
 –

Makes Watch_Dogs much more palatable*****

Whilst the basic game is a decent open world affair, the T-Bone character and his missions are what really help the game become something of their own. Beyond that however, the extra weapons and skins are not necessarily that interesting. Definitely pick up when on sale!
