Another fun layer
Really enjoy playing with spies and operations. The micromanagement of warfare is the pull of this game but sometimes exhausting. This adds a fun layer to influence things without necessarily having to get into combat.

– Fun and in need of some more developmentAll of the controversy aside, at its base this is a really fun game that gave me 120 hours within the first month or so but certainly has many limitations. Tinkering with economy and appreciating the offscreen implications of warfare are a lot of fun even if they lose some luster after a few play throughs. You really have to pay attention to modifiers and abstractions to appreciate how much is actually shaping your economy and battles since there are less visual cues. But when you take the time to dig in it's a pretty satisfying loop. The loop just get a little old after a while because there is a lot room for more content to fill it out and diversify playthroughs. Diplomacy, for instance, has much potential but needs to be deepened. When people say the bones are strong they are correct. I got this on a good sale since it had just come out so don't regret the purchase. I would recommend it if it hits a low price again and folks have some income to spare. At present it will give you many hours of fun but get a little stale after you get the hang of most mechanics. Still, there's a lot of potential here. by Allan A., USA - Mar 21st 2023

– Deeper mid and late gameLove EU4 so it wasn't hard to pick up on sale. Adds some great goals/complexity to older systems (HRE, Defender of the Faith) and I am a sucker for anything that builds on naval systems. by Allan A., USA - Mar 13th 2021

– Fun at first, but dryI picked this up a year or so back and fairly quickly returned it. The systems were fun but ultimately repetitive. Much of the critique that it was mash up of PDX games with hollow execution holds true. Will be curious to see if 2.0 changes things. by Allan A., USA - Oct 18th 2020

– Fun new transit optionsI am a sucker for monorails and trains of any kind. Not really financially efficient but great to look at. Also fun to piece the new hubs and routes together. Got me thinking about traffic and public transit in a way I never did before. Great on sale. by Allan A., USA - Jul 24th 2020

– Fun factorio liteA fun addition making zoning, supply, and traffic a little more engaging. Satisfying to play with specialized industries, especially when they link up to offer advance unique factories and goods. When it works, you can make massive profits. Lack of control of supply routing is annoying, but as some have said creates a fun game within the game overall. by Allan A., USA - Jul 24th 2020

– Fun Total War IntroductionThe game is very fun in itself. Systems work well together and combat and units are more complicated than they initially appear. Have dabbled in other Total Wars but this is the first I've played in depth. Enjoy diplomacy and settlement management. Specializing generals and governors is also fun as they level up. Manageable campaign and beautiful design. Picked it up on a great sale and don't regret it. by Allan A., USA - Jul 16th 2020

– Good but not necessarySome interesting broad mechanics, but nothing terribly game changing. Not yet sure how 1.30 enhances or makes irrelevant some of the systems introduced here. A nice round off to Muslim nations but many features are minor buffs or take some time before you can fully make use of them. Wait for a good sale. by Allan A., USA - Jun 26th 2020

– Regional and subtle gameplay additionsI was intrigued by new mechanics in China and the rework of the war in that arena. Uncertain about border conflicts. Focus trees are nice to have to flesh out Germany and Japan although I believe only alt histories are locked behind pay wall. More subtle additions that mix up game play are general traits (fun to progress down more trees(!) if not always making use of combat abilities) and little touches like equipment scavenging and more focused air missions. In all, a fun set of features that adds another little layer to the game. Waited to pick up during a sale. by Allan A., USA - May 9th 2020

– Good, but still necessary? In its day developing provinces added a huge layer. Now part of base game, so the expansion is less pivotal. I believe it still adds parliament to England so that's fun. Worth it on a big sale. by Allan A., USA - May 1st 2020

– Naval design and focus trees!A great add on for the naval game. While naval rework is part of the free patch you really get more with the ability to design ships. Tailoring fleets for tasks is very fun. Filling out focuses for major and minors is neat too. Dutch tree is very versatile. by Allan A., USA - May 1st 2020

– Fun new civs and agesI believe the age system is included in Gathering Storm, but if you don't have that or want specific Civs this adds a great new layer to the game. Chasing golden ages or bonuses from dark ages is a fun mini game in itself. by Allan A., USA - May 1st 2020

– MegastructuresA lot of ascension perks are part of the base game but a,ways fun to have a few more. And of course, megastructures! Game changing in its day. Now fun to have. by Allan A., USA - May 1st 2020

– Great flavorPicked this up on a very good sale. I'll admit the game is still very difficult for me and I'm learning many of the systems with each play through. This DLC doesn't bring any must have mechanics, but what it lacks there it makes up for in really fun focus trees for the Balkans. Interest in the area makes this a great flavor pack on sale. by Allan A., USA - May 1st 2020
