de Blob 2
 –

Bringing life to a dull world

I've played de Blob 2 when I was a kid and it still holds up. The best aspect is the presentation which changes as you play. It starts off dull and gray, but as you color the world it becomes vibrant and full of life. That extends to the music too which is excellent. It's a relatively simple platformer but it has a lot of charm. It has a decent amount of collectibles, though they can be a bit tough to find and you're probably going to need a guide. That's my only negative, but apart from that it's great!

Enter The Gungeon
 –

Enter The Review

I didn't buy Gungeon when it came out because it seemed lacking in content, but over the years it's received a number of updates that added a decent chunk of stuff. The variety of guns is insane, though they're locked behind a progression system that is kind of a slog. Each character has their own little backstory and the general theme of building a gun that can kill the past is interesting. Coop is really fun and you have a few ways to interact with the other player, like reviving them and swapping guns. While it doesn't have the replayability of something like Isaac, like most roguelikes it's more that worth the money you're paying.

Dead Cells
 –

Cells are dead, but the game isn't

The most important aspect of Dead Cells (currently at least) is that it's still being updated! Both free content updates and DLC are being released regularly, with a Castlevania one scheduled for next year.
Now as for the game itself it's one of the more fast-paced roguelikes filled with a lot of attacking and a lot of dodging. The weapon loot system makes it so you can make choices on the fly about which build you want to go for. Later levels can become brutal because you don't have hearts like in Isaac, but rather a health bar and some enemies can basically one hit kill you. Haven't gotten around to mastering it yet but I really enjoyed what I played so far.

Persona 4 Golden
 –

It really is golden

I'll be honest I don't like turn-based JRPG combat. In fact I kind of hate it. But the story here is fantastic, as is the music. I get this warm and nostalgic feeling playing it, because you're a high school student. It does have some annoying anime tropes but it is so engrossing. And the combat difficulty can be changed on the go. I for instance prefer to put the difficulty on easy while fighting dungeons mobs, and then increasing it to hard while fighting bosses. Something like skipping the grind. For people who love the combat though, you have a cool system of mixing Personas (your creatures) and creating new ones. Keep it mind that you can't can't max your relationship with everyone in one playthrough, which also means you can't get all the achievements, so if you plan on doing that it's best to play however you want on the 1st playthrough and look at a guide on the 2nd one (you're going to need it). While Persona 5 has better combat, it's worth experiencing this game's quaint charm of a small town.
