The Dwarves
 –

Beautiful

The game is beautiful, the music is nice and there is the song by Blind Guardian playing during the credits at the end.

But it's short, has very little replayability and it's so focused on the main plot that it can feel rather linear.

I haven't read the book but it's pretty standard fantasy fare if you're familiar with the classics and are a fan of RPGs. The story does have its moments and things pick up near the end but it may sound a bit too generic depending on your background.

RPG elements are limited to a few skill choices and decisions that play out like a choose your own adventure gamebook. You don't get to create your own character but the main character in this game is likeable and the voice acting is pretty good.

The main issue is the combat which plays pretty much like an RTS game. It's a bit messy and your guys are always facing overwhelming odds. Don't get me wrong, it does contribute to the epic dimension of these fights but it also gets old pretty quickly especially considering that you have to micromanage your party (of up to four characters) because if they're left to their own devices they never use their special abilities. If you want a more hands off approach then you will need to lower the difficulty and even then you will probably have to babysit your guys and gals and swicth around between characters every five seconds to activate their abilities.

It's not a game that I would recommend to people who may feel jaded about high fantasy and stories about dwarves and elves and considering its length you may want to wait for a sale but if you like the little bearded fellows and want to experience a short tale (probably around 8 hours of gameplay) then you could do worse.

Not for everyone

Definitely not for everyone but a game that will reward you for taking the time to appreciate what it has to offer.

Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes

What else

If you're into the genre it's a safe bet that you will really enjoy what this game has to offer. If you're not into this genre chances are you may still like it provided you approach the game with an open mind.

So so

Your experience may vary but if you're looking for something with more depth you probably won't enjoy your time with this one.

Brawler Action

Ever wanted to play an over the top violent brawler with a story reminiscent of action movies from the 80s? Look no further! This game has it all and it's a great way to unwind especially if you play in short bursts.

Joe Dever's Lone Wolf HD Remastered
 –

Choose your own adventure

This game will probably please old fans of the game books and it is a pretty good translation from the page to the screen but if you're going in bear in mind it can get a bit grindy and repetitive sooner rather than later. Still, if you're a Lone Wolf fan chances are you're going to like it. Last but not least if you're not into puzzles make sure you pick the Sixth Sense discipline as it will be a big help.

Crusader Kings II: Jade Dragon
 –

Absentee Landlord

This DLC doesn't bring in China but makes it into an absentee landlord. If you're playing in the East you will have to go out of your way to please and cajole the Emperor but if you're anywhere in the West it will be business as usual.

Crowntakers: Undead Undertakings DLC

A Worthy Addition

This is a pretty good DLC if you enjoy the base game then you will like this. The new character and challenges are enjoyable and make for much added diversity.

Age of Wonders III Collection
 –

The Collection is the best package

The game itself is not without some flaws but they are overshadowed by the possibilities it offer. Bear in mind that this is focused on warfare. If you want a peaceful fantasy civilisation building game it's not the game for you. Last but not least campaigns can be a bit tricky but random maps are a great way to get to grips with the game.

Tropico 5 – Complete Collection
 –

Tropico only better

I had doubts about this one but after playing it I can say it still feels like Tropico and the additions are a lot better than I expected. The division in eras alone make for a much more dynamic gameplay.

Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – The Collection
 –

Underrated

This game got a lot of bad press and it probably deserved it. The good news is that with the expansion it is no longer the red-headed stepchild of the Civ franchise and actually a worthy addition to the series. It may have felt like a reskinned version of Civ 5 but thanks to all the extra features that Rising Tides brings to the game that is no longer the case.

Jagged Alliance: Flashback
 –

Decent but still lacking

The game looks good and plays rather well but it's also a constant reminder of how great it could have been if it didn't feel so undercooked. Keep your expectations low and you shouldn't be too disappointed.

Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies
 –

Even better

I don't like the setting as much as the first Ace Patrol's but the I've actually found this one to be much more enjoyable. It's a bit on the casual end of the spectrum but it's fun especially if you like turn based games and care more about gameplay than fancy graphics.

Wonderful

Beautiful point and click game with a great atmosphere, music and visuals. It can get a bit challenging at time but the overall atmosphere helps keep you in the game while you look for the solution!

Parvaneh: Legacy of the Light's Guardians
 –

Gorgeous

The visuals are really great and there is a very pleasant atmosphere. However it is important to bear in mind that the voice over is in Farsi only so reading subtitles is a necessity. Unfortunately there is no controller support either so the character is moved with the keyboard and that's something of a drawback considering how well it could have worked with a controller. If you can overlook these things you will be able to enjoy the lovely scenery and visuals.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Collection
 –

Notorious but not so bad

It's actually pretty decent if you're an Aliens fan (especially if you add the fan made mod overhaul). Definitely worth picking up if you enjoy the movies and don't mind a little roughness or getting a mod to improve the game.
