Airport Madness: World Edition
 –

Got it free

I got this game free and never played it. I never will play it. This is not my type of game. There is no option to say this. But I need to get this out of my "review" back log.

You may like it if you play these types of games. I'm not saying it's bad or anything. I wish WinGameStore had an option that said "Not preferred" or something.

I'm not sure what it is with WinGameStore. Everytime they want to give away a free game, these airport sims seem to be their jam.

Frostpunk

It Surprised Me!

I don't know what my problem is with judging books by their cover. I didn't buy this game for a long time because of the way it looked. Never watched any playthroughs on it on Youtube or anything, either. Just wasn't interested.

By some happenstance, I received "This War of Mine" by the same developers. I liked it so much that I wanted to see what else they had to offer. Low and behold, I ended up here. So I got the complete Frostpunk Bundle.

From the VERY beginning, I was hooked. Frostpunk is far and beyond more interesting than what my eyes led me to believe. It's much deeper than building a society in a circle.

I'm not going to spoil it for you. But the design of this game is genius. It's a game about choices, surrounded within outstanding graphics and atmosphere. Great music design that really brings the gameplay in focus. And it feels like a REAL Steampunk game.

Frostpunk went from the unwanted ugly duckling to one of my most favorite games.

Wreckfest - Season Pass 2
 –

Gives you everything

This season pass gives you everything. Unlike those other games *cough* Mortal Kombat *cough*, this is a one stop pass. I have to be honest. I bought Wreckfest in early access. I played it online until everything was played out. When I came back to the game after over a year of release, I was surprised at how much content they added; and not in just the base game. The season pass is more than worth it for what you get to play with.

And remember, some of the online events are only available to those who own that event's DLC. If you enjoying racing in general, don't miss out on those. Get the season pass. That way you will have access to everything during each event period.

The Golf Club 2019 featuring the PGA TOUR
 –

One and done!

I won't lie. PGAT19 is a fun game, but it has it's problems. Once you get the swing on the controller down, the gameplay opens up. What I mean is, the swing system itself is finicky. Very finicky. Almost to a point where it actually mimics your own REAL golf swing. And if you're no PRO, then you know what I mean.

I believe the game should be more forgiving at some point, whether it's new clubs, new balls, or maybe an upgrade in your character. There's a fine line between sim gaming and arcade gaming. This game just happens to cross over it in both directs way too often to be consistent.

And therein lies the problem: The inconsistent feedback from the game on various situations. On one hole, you will judge the lie, wind, distance, and terrain correctly and land that perfect shot. However, with the exact same conditions on another hole - swing and all - you are likely to miss the target and end up in someone's backyard.

It's ridiculous. It's insane. And these are the things that drive you into not picking it up anymore.

Wreckfest - Season Pass

Fantasic Racing Game

This is by no means a simulator. You are not required to own a racing wheel or have carnal knowledge of the inner-workings of a V8 engine. This is pure racing. Pure crashing. Pure frustration. Pure ecstasy.

The damage modeling in Wreckfest rivals GRID (the first one) to a point where you look forward to all demolition events. The environment destruction table is just as enjoyable. There's nothing like running your opponent into SOMETHING on, or around, the track.

And the track variety really stands out in a game like this. I love learning them through repetition. The races aren't ever boring. The AI can be complete JERKS! To that point, revenge is a dish best served cold!!

Lost interest

I tried playing this game through several different playthroughs. The problem? I keep losing interest. I don know if it is the way the game flows, lack of information in certain areas, the art style, the missions,...I just don't know.

I do like the actual shooting action. But it becomes either too boring or too cumbersome to continue playing way before I get to the halfway point of the storyline.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Complete Pack
 –

It's iconic!

The only reason this game didn't get 5 stars is because it was outdone by its successor. I love turn-based tactical RPGs. It's my thing! And XCOM sits at the very tip of the heap.

The art direction is outstanding and the story (campaign?) is engaging. And the fun thing is, even though you know the routine, it's never the same game twice. You can play the way you want to test your skill of tactical warplay to no end.

The character design is awesome. The perks and reward system work fairly well. I remember how difficult it was to get used to in the beginning because it was my first XCOM (X-COM) game; ever. BUT once I got the hang of it, the dollars spent to hours played ratio got ridiculously one-sided.
